A Decade of Action: Jackson State, Lynch Street & the Civil Rights Movement
Project: Pop-up Exhibition Design
Client: Margaret Walker Center, Jackson State University
Exhibition on view May 13, 2022–February 1, 2023
A Decade of Action traces Jackson State University’s involvement in the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the events that led up to the Gibbs-Green shooting on campus in 1970. Symmetry designed twelve pop-up banners that each examine a specific topic and collectively underscore the important civil rights activities that happened on and around campus. Jackson State’s brand colors and fonts are utilized in the overall design and are supported by complementary bold colors. The exhibition debuted at the Margaret Walker Center to commemorate the Gibbs-Green tragedy, and the portable banners will continue to be shown at other locations in coming years.
